The first formal student organization for gay and lesbian students attending the University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire was GLOBE (Gay Lesbian or Bisexual Equality). Founded in 1984, GLOBE aimed to educate non-gays about homosexuality, provide social support to gay, lesbian, and bisexuals at UWEC, and work to end violence and discrimination against homosexuals.
